Though people enter into marriage with the best of intentions, things do not always go as planned and divorce may ultimately offer the best path forward. Attorney John Bovill III offers a supportive and Judgment-free environment where you can discuss your divorce goals and explore your available options, as well as devise a collaborative strategy for the ensuing process. We can guide you through all phases of the divorce process, ensuring that you can move forward to enjoy a bright and stable future.
Michigan is a no-fault state when it comes to getting a divorce. Meaning any married person can file for divorce without proving fault: all one needs to state is that there has been a breakdown of the marriage relationship to the extent that the bonds of matrimony can no longer be preserved and there is no reasonable likelihood that the marriage can be preserved. That is the minimum statutory requirement in Michigan. However, fault for the breakdown of the marriage relationship can be argued in an effort to get more than half of the marital estate.
If you and your spouse are in agreement about the terms of your divorce, I can put a Judgment of Divorce together for you. If you cannot see eye-to-eye, you will have to appear before a judge and provide the information he or she will need in order to determine the terms of your divorce. Whichever path you take, we will guide you and advise you throughout the process.
